There are always vacancies for people to deliver catalogues or to do telesales. Job boards for writers and journalists range from the excellent to the frustrating. Many publications want to run a sweat shop and advertise for freelancers to write and research 600 word articles for $2 to $3 per article. This is to entice rookies to the industry and the plain desperate.

Of course, there are the con artists and experienced job hunters get to know what they smell like. These are most often termed as work at home opportunities and they promise riches for very little work. Some of them ask for an upfront registration fee to cover their administration costs. This must never be given in any circumstances. Basically, if it sounds too good to be true, then it is. Job boards are filled with data entry positions, typing at home, filling paid surveys and other amazing offers. There are some genuine work at home jobs but they are few and far between. It is possible to do some surveys and to do mystery shopping but it will never provide enough to retire on.

Regular surfers get to know the sites to avoid and the more reliable ones. The thing to remember is that there is no such thing as a free lunch, as they say. Some web sites have been set up, with the express purpose to expose the scam merchants.
